The Languedoc Roussillon is France's largest wine growing region  and is made up of 5 departments reaching from the Spanish border south of Perpignan in the Pyrénées Orientales, through Aude, where Axat is situated, and through Hérault, Lozère and Gard.

 

You can locate Axat centrally in the triangle of Carcassonne, Perpignan and Andorra.

 

Axat is a charming little village in the south of France, situated in the  the Pyrénées .

The river Aude runs through Axat, which is a village of 1000 inhabitants and has everything you need, e.g. two grocers; two butchers; a very skilled baker; tabac; café; post office; pharmacy etc.

In this part of France there are mild winters and warm, dry summers. In the summer months, temperatures from May to October average 30 degrees C,  with the winter months from November to April being generally mild and dry.
